He was born 'Heinric F Ihme'

Henry Ihme, Sr., came to the United States
19 May 1857 with his parents and settled in Scott
County, Minnesota. He was one of the troops
sent to Dakota to subdue the Indians at the
time of the Sioux rebellion, and served in
the 4th Regiment, Co. F during the Civil
War.
In 1871 he married Jeanette Engel and in
1878 they came to North Dakota and homesteaded on Section 8 in Watson Township.
Mr. Ihme often told his children that the
reason he settled in North Dakota w as that
the prairies were alive with birds, ducks,
geese, and prairie chickens, as the troops
marched across this area, and the green grass
and fragrant flowers made it the most beautiful country he had ever seen.

Federal pension card = Name spelled as Ihma. Henry Ihma Co. F. 4th Minnesota Inft.. Applied for veterans pension 8-7-1890 in North Dakota. Widow Jeanette Ihma applied for pension 7-17-1905 in North Dakota. Her file will have proof of marriage and her full date & place of death etc..
