MAQUON -- Walter T. "Ted" Scharfenberg, 65, of Rural Route 1 died at 8:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 1994, at his home. Born Sept. 7, 1929, in Galesburg to Walter T. and Benita Reavy Scharfenberg, he married Martha Pratt on Sept. 24, 1953, in Galesburg. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, David, Stephen and Charles, all of Maquon, and Daniel of Peoria; one daughter, Mrs. Randy (Amy) Ems of Naperville; one brother, Robert of Stroudsburg, Pa.; and nine grandchildren. One daughter, Kathryn Utzinger, preceded him in death. He was a Korean War Army veteran, serving as a sergeant first class. In 1951, he graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was a farmer in rural Maquon for 41 years. He was a member of Knox County Cattleman's Association and Knox County Regional School Board. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson- West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Benny Stare will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Haynes Cemetery in DeLong. Memorials may be made to Galesburg Rescue Mission or any charity.
