Dorothy M. Kelly, 87, of Alliance, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer since 2005.
She was born Aug. 17, 1924, in Sebring and lived in Alliance most of her life. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She received her education from Sebring McKinley High School. She retired from Alliance Manufacturing Co. after 26 years. Dorothy had been a licensed real estate agent for Tanner Reality in Alliance for many years and a manager at Francis Jewelers for 16 years, before retiring.
Mrs. Kelly was an active member and former chaplain of the VFW Auxiliary and a board member of the Alliance for Children and Families.
Dorothy will always be remembered for telling jokes and being a social butterfly.
Most recently, she had been enjoying her first great-grandchildren, Cooper and Linda.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Jack) McClary of Alliance and Haines City, Fla., and Polly Fryfogle of Alliance; three grandchildren, Christopher (Shannon) Fryfogle of Conneaut, Ohio, and Gannon Morrissey and James Morrissey, both of Alliance; one great-grandson, Cooper Fryfogle; a great-granddaughter, Linda Dalton; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert Kelly, on July 9, 1975, whom she married Feb. 20, 1943; her parents, Ernest M. and Clara C. (Sandrock) Thomas; two brothers, Dale Thomas and Ray Thomas; and a son-in-law, Clifford "Sonny" Fryfogle Jr.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home. A VFW Auxiliary service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, with the Rev. Matthew M. Mankowski officiating.
Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
