My g g grandfather was named Charles J. Meng. He and his
family lived in Louisville, Ky. circa 1840-1870. He was born
about 1805-7 and died in Christian County, Ky. in Christian
Co., Ky on September 26, 1873. His children were: Charles P., Laura, Margaret, James and Anna. I do not know from what country his family originated but he possibly came from
Virginia to Louisville. His wife's name was Margaret Porter.
If you can help me with his origin I would appreciate it!!

Hi Charles,

I believe that Charles[ton] J. Meng of Louisville, Ky. was the son of Charles Ulrich Meng [1769 - 1855] and his wife Victoria Tebbs [1782 - 1865] of Prince William County, Virginia. Charles had a brother James Madison Meng who left a large family in Bourbon County, Kentucky. There were 11 children in the family of Charles and Victoria. There is mention of Charles as brother to James M. Meng in a couple of Kentucky biographies from the late 1880's. The family of Charles Ulrich Meng came from Pennsylvania and the family of Victoria Tebbs from Virginia. Charles and Victoria lived for most of their life on a farm known as "Moss Hill" located west of Brentsville, Virginia. This farm descended to the Mengs from Victoria Meng's father William Tebbs.
