Neva Ruth Moritz, the daughter of Harry and Wealthy Jennie Warrick Schenck was born October 15, 1917 in Page County, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center, Villisca, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 23 days.

Ruth lived her childhood on a farm south of Villisca. In 1936, she graduated from the Villisca High School and then completed Normal training in Maryville, MO. Ruth taught in the rural Page County schools of Nile, Swisher and Vandevender. Ruth met her husband, Elvin L. Moritz while they were in the 8th grade. They were engaged before Pearl Harbor and married on February 3, 1942 in Mt Holly, NJ in a double ceremony with her brother Earl and Genny Schenck, before the 168th Infantry Company F was sent overseas during World War II.
Ruth continued to teach in rural Page County schools while her husband was stationed overseas and was devoted to her students. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, they lived in Clarinda where their two children were born. In 1950, they purchased and moved to a farm near Nodaway, IA. Ruth was employed as a bookkeeper for the local telephone company and served as the school board secretary. In 1957, Ruth was employed at the Union Carbide in Red Oak and the family moved to Villisca. After sixteen years, she retired, and resided in Villisca until 2002, when they moved to Red Oak. Ruth was a member of the Villisca United Methodist Church, a Guild group member, and a former member of the Villisca Progress Club. After retirement, Elvin and Ruth spent several years traveling by RV trailer, mostly in the winter months. They enjoyed gardening and Ruth canned the produce; she was a wonderful cook. Ruth raised beautiful flowers and took much pride in them, and enjoyed ceramics as a hobby, but most of all she loved all her family. Ruth became a resident of the Villisca Good Samaritan Center in June 2004.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Vernon, Earl and infant Donald; and daughter-in-law: Sandra Campbell Moritz.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Elvin Moritz, of Villisca, IA; two children: Evon Carlson and husband Ron of Red Oak, IA; Clark Moritz and wife Roberta of Waterloo, IA; four grandchildren: Lynette Fast and husband Rodney of Lincoln, NE; Brian Carlson and wife Mary of Red Oak, IA; Corey Moritz and wife Paula of Dublin, OH; and Brigette Moritz of Waterloo, IA; ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Genny Schenck of Clarinda, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.
