Notes from The Wall:

Spec 4 Howard died before he had an opportunity to see his son, Mark. Mark
is now on active duty in the United States
Navy and is a credit to the uniform. I
work with this find young man, a son any
father would be proud of. If you served
with or knew Spec 4 mark Howard, I know
his son would love to hear from you.

I trained with Mark at the British Jungle Warfare School in Mayalsia. Mark volunteered for the combat tracker program and trained at BJWS before going to Vietnam. I became a good friend of Mark during our training. Go to the tracker website and go to photo album 8A. Scroll down and see the group photo. You'll see Mark making a face when the picture was taken. I'm standing on the last row. I also have a couple of pictures of us together in Malaysia. He was well liked by everybody at BJWS. He was also friends with a John Reed. One weekend they concocted an alcoholic drink mixted with Kool-Aid someone sent them. It was called a Howie-Zowie/Reedy-Bleedy. Mark also taught me a few versus of a folk song called 'Keep on trucking momma'. He carried and played a twelve string guitar. I still feel the lose of Mark and have always wished he would be the one to make it home.

Damn its hard to let go...........and perhaps its not intended to happen. I am still seeing that life is the perfect thing to pass the time away with. There are times (as now) that I wonder what could have been. I miss him so and always will.

If you have not yet found any who serverd with your father you can go to the the web site for Combat Tracker Teams. I was also a Combat Tracker and many of us have found each other and get together once a year. Next year we are going to the Vietnam Wall. I did not serve with your father, but, someone who has checked into the web site knew him. There were not many of us, he is our brother.

A Son Wants to Know
Corporal Mark Howard left a son named Mark, who is currently serving with the United States Navy. Mark Jr is a son any man would be proud of. Mark Jr never knew his dad and would like to hear from someone who served with him or could provide information about his death.

Mark had a great sense of humor but at times got in trouble with the nuns at Immaculate Conception for cutting up in class. He was very popular. I only learned of Mark's death from high school friends. This happened about a year before I was in Vietnam. I remember it being a shock at the time. I still have good memories of him and his brother Matt.
