Verne Harold Hunt, 92, died on Saturday, November 19th, 2011 at 5:45 p.m. at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN.
The wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 21st at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hallock, MN and the funeral will also be held at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church on Tuesday the 22nd of November at 11:00 a.m. Funeral arrangements are with Austin Funeral Home of Hallock, MN.
Verne Hunt was born in Warren, MN, October 29th, 1919 to Clara Margaret Clausen and Albert Verne Hunt (A.V). He attended school in Hallock, MN through the 8th grade and quit to help out with the family farm. He went into the service and served his country in Brisbane, Australia for 4 years during World War II. He married Sarah Susan Baldwin on October 30th, 1945 at St. Anne's Catholic Church of St. Vincent, MN. They lived in Humboldt, MN during the early years and later moved to a farm 5 miles northwest of Hallock and Verne farmed for many years. He loved to say he was a prolific ancestor by the fact that he brought 17 children, 10 boys and 7 girls into the world; He also has 55 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren with 3 on the way.
Survivors are Verne Paul Hunt, Gillette, WY, James Hunt (Valerie), Fargo, ND, John (Kathleen), Brooklyn Park, MN, Robert Hunt (Teresa), Wadena, MN, Raymond Hunt (Janice), Hallock, MN, Teresa Pennebaker (David), Roxboro, NC, JoAnne Cruz, Shakopee, MN, Daniel Hunt(Sherri), Larimore, ND, William Hunt(Debbie) Warroad, MN, Mary Heck (Allen) Princeton, MN, Gerald Hunt, New Brighton, MN, Kathleen LaPlante (Peter), Detroit Lakes, MN, Loretta Hunt, Cavalier, ND, David Hunt, New Brighton, MN, Carol Kratzke(Mark), Max, ND and Margaret Fenster (Gary), Mandan, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Jean and Allison Hunt and his wife Sarah. He was also preceded in death by his son, Earl Hunt and grandson, Sean Hunt.
Verne loved his family, dancing with the nurses and residents at Emmanuel Nursing Home, reading, spelling bees, hunting, fishing, politics, gardening, playing cards like pinochle and cribbage. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell Ole and Lena Jokes.
He loved his faith in the Catholic Church and was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was a proud Veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the Farmers Union.
Highlights of his life were his 89th birthday party where many of his family and friends gathered in Hallock, many hunting and fishing trips with his brothers and children, his trip with Famers Union to Hungary and Poland. He and his wife Sarah being named Valley Farmer Homemaker, and the day President George Bush Jr. honored him and other World War II Veterans by giving them High School Diplomas. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
