Kirk was killed while riding his bike by a drunk driver who then fled the scene (hit & run). James Arthur Northey had already been convicted for DUI 7 times.

Kirk was preceded in death by his wife who died of cancer at age 28. He was survived by his mom Aeres Yvonne Garthe & his sister Kimberly Laverty.
