Raymond "White Horse" Eugene Leenerts, 72, Ferris passed away early Thursday morning, Dec. 12, 2002 at his home in Ferris of natural causes. He was born May 11, 1930 in Adams County near Chatten the son of William and Minnie (Lubben) Leenerts. He was married to Shirley Ann Buss on Feb. 14, 1953 in Quincy. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, Ferris; two sons, Monte Leenerts and his companion Shelley Hawley, Golden and Myron (Teresa) Leenerts, Hamilton; one daughter, Monica S. Helenthal; two brothers, Dale A. Leenerts, Mt. Sterling and Larry W. Leenerts, Rock Island; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. He had been the Prairie Township, Hancock County Road Commissioner for 27 years retiring on July 23, 1997. He had lived in Golden 23 years, Clayton 15 years, Elvaston 10 years, Rural Carthage for 14 years and had spent the last nine years in Ferris. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Basco, the Iowa Gas Engine Club, and was a Trustee of the Village of Ferris. Funeral services were held at Neiser-Printy Funeral Home in Carthage at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002 with burial in the Southside Cemetery in Clayton. Memorials may be directed to the McDonough County Hospice.
