DR ALAN E DAVIES: Elyria optomitrist; 68; died Sunday morning [12-5] at Elyria Memorial Hosp after a lengthy illness. He was born in Elyria & lived in the area all his life. Davies was a 1933 graduate of Elyria High School, attended Whe-aton College & graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry. He took up his practice in 1939. Davies served with the Army Medical Corp for 3.5 yrs during World War II & treated Dwight D Eisenhower just prior to his taking over as Supreme Allied Commander. Davies retired in May 1981. He was a member of the Elyria Elks & was past president of the Elyria Evening Lions Club. He was honored by Lions International for his work in the Lions Sight Program. Davies was a member of American Legion Post 2 in Elyria & had been a member of its old Drum&Bugle Corp. He was a member of both the Ohio State & the Lorain County Optometry Assoc.
Davies is survived by his wife of 42yrs Louise (nee Law); sons: Daniel L-St Peters MO & Randall E-Springfield MO; 6 grandchildren; a sister: Carolyn (sp-Harold) Jenson-Lakewood; a brother: DrRichard K Davies-Ephrata WA. He was preceded in death by his mother RuthM in 1975; father Walter E in 1982 & brother David in 1971.
Friends may call at Curtis Scheuffler Funeral Home where services will be held Wednesday afternoon [12-8]; Rev Lyle Hinkle will officiate. The family suggests that memorial contribu-tions be made to the Lorain County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
