The Rev. Henry A. Tobelmann

The Rev. Henry Augustus Tobelmann, 94, of 2202 Huntington Road, B-6, Burlington, N.C., died suddenly of natural causes at his residence on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003.

Born in Irvington, N.J., he was a graduate of Philadelphia Biblical University, Langhorne. He served, with his wife, as a missionary for 32 years in Chile with the Gospel Mission of South America. He was the founder of the Latin Evangelical Outreach (LEO), serving Hispanics in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan areas. His sending church was Madison Avenue Baptist Church of Paterson, N.J. He was very involved in Crossroads Christian Fellowship of Union, N.J., during the beginning years of LEO. Since moving to North Carolina, he has been an active worshipper at the Ireland Street Chapel of Burlington.

Survivors include two sisters: Mrs. Henrietta Reynolds of Kentucky; Mrs. Betty Valoff of California; one brother, Charles F. Tobelmann of California; three daughters: Mrs. Lois Senning of California; Mrs. Dorothy Bowen of Rohrsburg; and Mrs. Helen McLeod of North Carolina; two sons: George Tobelmann of North Carolina; and the Rev. Charles J. Tobelmann of New Jersey; one adopted son, Heriberto Moreno, of the Andean Aurocanian Indians, Coquimbo, Chile; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and by brothers, Fred Tobelmann, Paul A. Tobelmann and George Tobelmann.

The funeral was conducted on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at the McClure Funeral Home in Burlington by Elders J. Eddie Schwartz and A.G. Sutton Jr. of Ireland Street Chapel. Burial took place in Graham Memorial Park.
