Kenneth R. Bernitt Sr. of Long Eddy, a heavy equipment mechanic for Liberty Scrap Metal in Liberty and a lifelong area resident, died Mon, Dec 11, 2000, in Long Eddy as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 50 years of age.
The s/o the late Willis and Agnes Lennon Bernitt, he was b. Dec 27, 1949, in Callicoon.
A Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of the French Woods Golf and Country Club and a member of the Tuesday Night Bowling League at the Callicoon Lanes.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen VanGinhoven Bernitt, and a son, Kenneth R. Bernitt Jr., both at home; twin daus, Jennifer and Rebecca Bernitt, both of Queens; a sister, Barbara Hahl of Roscoe; two brothers, Dennis Bernitt of Hankins and Michael Bernitt of North Branch; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Sat. at Holy Cross Ch in Callicoon with the Rev. Ignatius Smith, O.F.M., officiating.
Cremation will be made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Long Eddy Hose Co., Long Eddy, N.Y. 12760 or to the National Hydrocephalus Association, 870 Market St., Suite 705, San Francisco, Calif. 94012."
