Worked in the Oklahoma City Public School System for 29 years and for 26 years served as principal at Columbus Elementary School. Moved to Oklahoma from his native Missouri as a youth and graduated from Mill Creek High School. Received his B.S. at Central State Teachers College at Edmond and later obtained his master's degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Started in the Oklahoma City system in 1931 as principal at Riverside grade school and was administrator at Wheeler Elementary School at the time of death. Prior teaching assignments included Peyton, Morse and Fort Cobb.

Active in the Boy Scout movement of Oklahoma City for 26 years for which he received the 1952 Silver Beaver scout award for community service. He was vice president of the Putnam City Methodist Church board and an active member of many civic organizations including the Capitol Hill Kiwanis Club, the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce, the Masonic Lodge, National Education Association and the Oklahoma Education Association.
