Alex G. Faris, 76, Altoona, died Tuesday at home.

He was the son of the late George and Mary (Batrus) Faris. He married Rosalie Sremanak.

Surviving are his wife; four sisters: Minnie Yahner, Sarah Steele, Helen Steele and Betty Bagnell; two sisters-in-law: Bonnie Faris and Erma Kean and husband, David; brother-in-law, Nick Sremanak and wife, Janice; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Joe, Jim and George Faris; and a sister, Dorothy Diaz.

Mr. Faris served in the U.S. Army from 1955-58. He retired from United Parcel Service. He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church.

Alex enjoyed Penn State football and Altoona Curve baseball.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at The Good Funeral Home Inc. (www.thegoodfuneralhomeinc.com), where a Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday. A funeral service will be observed at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, officiated by the Very Rev. Father Stephen Lourie.

Interment will be in Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church.
