David was born in Deispita Russia to John George & Mary(Quint)Herbel. Arrived in America 1903 at age of 17 with his brother George D. They left Hamburg Germany on June 5, 1903 on the ship Graf Waldersee and arrived in the Port of New York on June 18, 1903. They traveled to Lehigh, Marion County, Kansas where their uncle had settled many years before. While there he worked on a farm or on the railroad. The following year his parents,grandfather, sisters, little brother and his brother George's fiance Lydia followed. He first married Paulina Niedens in 1911 and had 2 children Harold and Ella. After Paulina's death he married Rosa Bollinger in 1917 and they had 4 sons Levien, Wilbert, Edwin, & George.
