Lemuel, Elizabeth, their son Elisha and his wife, Mary Hall, along with the younger children, Eliza Jane, Charles Henry and Frances Adelain left the outfitting post at Kanesville (now Council Bluffs, Iowa) on 11 June 1850.
They were with 100 wagons of LDS Church members who were making their way to the Salt Lake Valley on what is now known as the Mormon Trail. Their Company was led by Captain James Pace.
Also in this company was Elizabeth's sister, Margaret Kennedy, wife of Charles Dana along with her family. She died shortly after they crossed the Missouri River (on June 14th) of an epidemic of Cholera. Her husband, Charles Dana, recorded the distance from the river as being "24 miles".
Elizabeth, probably from trying to care for her dear sister, took sick and died on the 27th, when they were about 35 Miles west of the Missouri River. (some accounts list the area as Nebraska Territory)
She was buried alongside the trail, as her sister had been, twelve days earlier.
The Dana & Mallory families pressed on, arriving in the Valley of the Great Salt Lake on 23 September 1850.
