Obituary Gonzales Inquirer Oct. 30, 1984

Funeral services for Olga Ebel, who died on Tuesday afternoon in a San Antonio hospital, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist church. The Rev. Warren Hornung will officiate, with interment in the City cemetery under the direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.

Services Held For Olga Ebel

Funeral services for Joanne Olga Ebel were held this morning, Thursday, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist church, under the direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. The Rev. Warren Hornung was assisted by the Rev. Robert Deming in officiating, and interment was in the City cemetery. Miss Ebel died on Tuesday at Humana Hospital in San Antonio.
She was born on April 29, 1904 in Breslau,Fayett county, to August Hermann and Emma E. Menking Ebel, natives respectively of Emden, Germany and Fayett county. She was a life long member of the Methodist church, and was active in church affairs, serving as chairperson of the Wesleyan Circle.
Miss Ebel graduated from Gonzales High School in 1922, after coming here in 1907 with her parents, three sisters and a brother. The family had a dairy farm north of the Harwood Road.
She entered the WSAC in 1943, training in Iowa and serving in the United States.
She was awarded WAAC AT Victory Ribbons, silver life saving and Good Conduct Medals and was discharged in 1945 as a sergeant.
Her profession was bookkeeping, and she was appointed as Gonzales county Clerk for 12 months,
She served for over 1,000 hours as a volunteer at Memorial Hospital, and at the time of her illness was an archivist for Gonzales county, helping the county Historical Commission with the publication of the county history.
