S. Westendorf dies at age 82

Sylvester H. Westendorf, 82, of Bishop, died at 2:05 p.m. Monday, September 7, at St Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

The funeral was held at 10:30 am.Thursday at St Aloysius Catholic Church, Bishop, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham, with a parish wake service at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made lo St Aloysius Catholic Church.

Mr. Westendorf was born September 26, 1909, in Bishop, the son of Ben and Anna (Pruemer) Westendorf. He married Marie A. Drees in 1941 in Teutopolis.

He was retired from farming and construction work, was a member of St Aloysius Catholic Church and the church's St Joseph Men’s Sodality, Bishop; and was a honorary member of Knights of Columbus, Effingham.

Surviving are his wife; sons, John and Leonard, both of Teutopolis, Arthur and Cletus, both of Bishop, Kenneth of Effingham, Richard of Montrose; daughters, Mrs Victor (Mary Ann) Hardiek and Mrs Pete (Be mice) Walk, both of Bishop, Mrs John (Florence) Shrock of Gainesville, Florida, Mrs George (Ruth) Bushue of Watson; sister, Delia Wernsing of Shumway; 36 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, one brother, one sister and two grandchildren.
