Joe never married. He owned an little house just south of the Dutton cemetery on the north side of Dutton MT. For many years he was the town butcher. He had his own equipment and had a little shop just south of his home. He butchered meat for many businesses as well as private individuals, reaching out as for as Great Falls for customers.
In addition to running his butcher shop, he collected all kinds of scrap metals and would sell them in Great Falls to supplement his income. He also was caretaker of the Dutton Cemetery for many years. It is said that the cemetery always looked real nice, as he did a good job.
He lived in his home until he reached a ripe old age. Then he decided to move to the Teton County Nursing Home in Choteau, Montana where he lived for several years. When he was living in the nursing home, he said many times that he was one of the few living there that still had his marbles.
He was in good health most of his life, right to the time of his death on December 8, 1969. He is buried in the Dutton Cemetery that he cared for so much.
