Darold was born October 4, 1943, to Robert and Edna (Thun) Pflugradt in Otter Tail County, Parkers Prairie, Minnesota where he was raised and attended country school. He was baptized November 14, 1943 in his home by the Pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Parkers Prairie and confirmed at St. James, South Effington Lutheran Church of Parkers Prairie. Darold started farming for his sister and brother-in-law Kermit and Elnora Hohnwaldst (Pflugradt) at the age of 14 years. He farmed for them for 27 years. He then worked as a farmhand for Tom Schultz, Robert Bitzan and Donald Byrne. His last years were spent working for Wal-Mart in Alexandria and part-time as a farmhand for Ben Wagner. Darold was united in marriage to Jane Violet Diedrich August 23, 1975, in Alexandria. Darold's primary pastime interests were gardening and sharing his bountiful crops with his family and friends and fishing.
Darold is survived by his wife, Jane of Garfield; his wife's son, Scott Diedrich; grandson David Diedrich; two brothers: Donald and Dennis Pflugradt of Garfield; and two sisters: Elnora Hohnwaldt and husband Kermit of Garfield; Audriene Warm and husband Don of Silver Bay; several nephews and nieces; mother-in-law, Violet Diedrich, eight sisters-in-law and twelve brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his twin sister Delores Dierckson who died November 18, 1990; his sister JoAnn Froemming who died in 1988; and parents Robert and Edna (Thun) Pflugradt who passed away March 15, 1979 and July 19, 1973 respectively.
Funeral services were Mar 28, 2002 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leaf Valley Township with Pastor Edwin Borchardt officiating. Interment was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Millerville Township. Casketbearers were Kerry Hohnwaldt, Randy Froemming, Arnie Swenson, Bob Swenson, Allen Swenson and Loren Swenson.
