Gerald L. McAfee, 76, Richmond, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011.

Born Aug. 19, 1935, in Harrison County, he was the son of the late Henry and Garnet Baker McAfee.

He graduated from Morgan Township High School, earned a master's degree from Purdue University, taught science at Union County High School for 30 years then retired in 1994. He previously had taught for seven years at other schools. Following retirement, he worked at Walmart in Richmond.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James McAfee and Parvin McAfee, and two sisters, Allene Weilbaker and Wilma Brown.

Survivors include his children, Barbara Kluesener of Avon, Rebecca S. Martin of Waverly, Ohio, David McAfee of Liberty, Kathleen Cross of Greenfield and Jonathan McAfee of Seattle; two siblings, Joyce Knuckles of Clarksville and Lowell McAfee of Jeffersonville; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Wednesday, Jan. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, in Liberty and Thursday, Jan. 5, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra.

Funeral: Thursday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. at Love Funeral Home with interment in the Palmyra Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Heart Association.
