Rockne's Eldest Son Dies at 45
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP)-William D. Rockne, 45, eldest of Knute Rockne, Notre Dame football coach in the 1920s, died in Memorial Hospital Monday night.
He was committed to the Illinois State Hospital for the Insane at Elgin, Ill., in 1936 as a victim of dementia parecoxib but later was released. In 1951 he was near death for several days after being shot twice in a home at Wichita, Kan.
His father died in a plane crash in Kansas in 1931, and his mother, Mrs. Bonnie Skiles Rockne, died four years ago. Two brothers and a sister survive.
