He was the son of the late Loy F. Thompson and Mrs. Bleeka Cornelius Thompson. His grandparents were the late Claudia H. & Zolliecoffer J. Thompson of Shelby, NC, and the late Etta Brantley and Chalmers E. Cornelius of Mooresville, NC.
He was born March 16, 1927 in Brevard, NC, and attended public schools in Mooresville and New Bern, NC. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University School of Engineering.
In 1948, he was employed by the Department of The Army as a civil engineer in Wurzburg, Germany. There he met and married Helen Henderson, daughter of a U.S. Army Officer.
The remainder of his career was involved with the heating and air conditioning business. He spent 9 years as a sales engineer with Trane Company in Charlotte and the last 20 years with Westinghouse Corporation in Charlotte, NC, Norman, OK, and Verona, VA, in various positions in Sales–Service and Marketing.
Immediate survivors include his wife, Helen; his mother, Bleeka C. Thompson, and his sister, Connie T. Claris, both of Hendersonville NC; his children: a son, Graham H. Thompson, USN, Norfolk VA; daughter Kitten and her husband Ronnie Corbett of Staunton, and their daughters, Tami and Kelly; daughter Debbie and her husband Jim Fleugel of McAlester, OK, and their sons, Matthew and Adam.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 22 in Covenant Presbyterian Church, Staunton VA. Burial at Oak Lawn Memory Gardens. Rev. Donn K. Langfitt will officiate. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Henry Funeral Home in Staunton. The family would welcome memorials to cancer research.
