Fern Isabel (Taylor) Leasure passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at A New Home in Topeka, Kansas at the age of 91.

Fern was born in Coffey County Kansas, NW of Gridley, Ks on Jan 30, 1920. She was the youngest of four children born to Pearl (Faulkner) and S. K. Taylor. She first attended school at Knowledge Hill, after her family moved to Woodson County in 1925. She graduated from Yates Center High School in 1938.

Fern was married in December, 1942 to Claude Beal of Yates Center. Their son, Alan Beal, was born to them in August, 1943. Claude was a member of First Special Service Force and was killed in action in WWII when Alan was only a few months old. This left her a young war widow, caring for her baby son.

Fern married Clyde Johnson of Yates Center in 1945. Their daughter, Clyta, born in September, 1955, survives. Clyde and Fern lived on a small farm near Yates Center for many years before moving to Coffeyville, Ks in 1963. Clyde died at the VA Hospital in Wichita, Ks in May 1967. This left Fern to care for her young daughter.

Fern became an LPN in 1970 and worked 5 years at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was a member of Kansas Nursing Association.

Fern married Franklin Leasure of Yates Center in 1975 and they lived on a farm southeast of Yates Center for 17 years. Frank was Woodson County Rural Fire Chief and Fern accompanied him on many fires. Fern also worked at the Nursing Home in Yates Center for many years. Fern and Frank were members of the Farm Bureau and Woodson County COOP. Frank died in 1992, leaving Fern alone once again.

Fern moved to Topeka to be near her children and their families in 1996. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and quilting. Her children and many grandchildren kept her busy.

Fern is survived by her sister, Elsie Whisenand of Higbee, Mo; her daughter, Clyta (Kerry) Bolze of Topeka; daughter-in-law, Marcia Beal-Stullken; her grandchildren, Stacie Hilmes of Mansfield, Tx, Jeff Beal of Meriden, Ks, Shannon Yancy, Michelle Sann, Kerry Bolze, Jamie Martinez and Chrissy Bolze all of Topeka; a niece, Joyce McCormick of Yates Center; 4 great nieces and nephews; as well as 15 great-grandchildren.

Fern is preceded in death by many loved ones--her parents, as well as both brothers, Grant Taylor and Kenneth Taylor, her three husbands, her son, Alan, her great-grandson, Cole Hilmes, her nephews Dennis Terrell and Kenneth Wayne Taylor.
Fern's family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 A.M.at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center, KS on Monday, January 16, 2012, with the service immediately following at 10:30. She will be privately interred in Crandall Cemetery near Leroy, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association Central and Western Kansas Chapter in her name. Thank you to all who cared for Fern in the latter stage of her life at Peggy Kelly House and A New Home. She had cared for so many others, then it was time for her to be cared for.
