Dennis R. Baumert was a loving, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was born on January 21, 1934 at his family's home in Howells, Nebraska. He moved to Columbus, Nebraska in 1946. He graduated from Saint Bonaventure High School in Columbus where he lettered four years in football, basketball, track, and baseball. He attended Quincy College in Illinois on a football scholarship. When the college dropped the football program he enlisted in the army and was stationed in Ft. Leonardwood, MO, where he proudly served during the Korean War.

He married (Mary) Pat Tooley in 1955. He graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1961 and began a 50-year career as a CPA with Peat Marwick in Lincoln. He later became a partner with Marvin Jewell and Company. For the last 25 years he practiced out of his home, serving many clients, family members, and friends until he finished all 2010 tax returns.

Dennis was a member of the AICPA, the Nebraska Society of CPA's, and served on the Nebraska State Board of Accountancy, serving one year as chairman, and the AICPA Small Business Board. Dennis retired from couch coaching the Nebraska Cornhuskers during the 2009 loss to Texas, after which he established the Fund for immediate retirement of Big 12 referees.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Theresa Baumert, brother Joe Baumert, and sister Terry Prichard. He is survived by his beloved family, wife of 56 years Pat, and children Jim (Krystal) Lincoln, Denise Alfonsin (Jim) Overland Park, KS, Sue Omaha, Marti Jeffrey (Rich) Omaha, Tom (Melissa) Lincoln, Joe (Tami Jacobs) Denver, Karen Bentz Lincoln; grandchildren Heidi and Hanna Baumert, Mary, Denny, Anna, and Nicky Alfonsin, Spencer Baumert, Nikki Schwartz and Amanda Kuhn (Rodney, Jr.), Joey Baumert and Morgan and Jarrod Jacobs, and Natalie Bentz; great grandchildren Jack St. George, Haylie and Mylie Kuhn, and Leloo Fisher; sister Evelyn Baumert (Omaha), brother Don Baumert (Phoenix, AZ), sister-in-law Karla Baumert (Columbus), and many, many extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers for masses, memorials may be sent to the Catholic Social Services, Child Saving Institute (Omaha), St. Gianna House (Lincoln), or the Chronic Disease fund (Plano, TX).

Visitation January 15, 2012 6:00 p.m.; rosary 7:00 p.m. at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln. Funeral Mass Monday, January 16, 2012 11:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, 1940 S. 77th, Lincoln, NE.
