Phyllis S. Streff, 91 years old, of Alton, IA, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at Orange City Area Health Systems Hospital in Orange City, IA.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, with Rev. Paul Eisele officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alton. Visitation will be any time after 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, and there will be a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., both at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.

Phyllis was born July 21, 1920, at rural Remsen, the daughter of Aloysius and Magdalen (Scharff) Krier. She was raised in Remsen on the family farm and attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen.

She married the love of her life, Clarence Streff of Alton, on Feb. 21, 1944, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. The couple farmed southeast of Alton until they moved into Alton in 1976. Clarence died on Sept. 13, 1987, and Phyllis remained in Alton until she became a resident of Long-Term Care in Orange City on Oct. 26, 2010.

Phyllis was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Rosary Society. Phyllis enjoyed bowling, gardening and preserving, bingo, reading, and lively card games. She was a wonderful baker and pie maker. A grandchild never went home without a cookie and a hug.

Survivors include five daughters and their husbands, Mary Ann and Dale Jobe of Neosho, MO, Patti and Ed Walsh of Sioux City, IA, Jane and Wayne Horkey of Alton, Bev and Marc Thoene of Alton, and Miss Betty Streff of Remsen; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Bill Schroeder and his wife Janys of Kingsley, IA; four sisters-in-law, Viola Krier of Remsen, Phyl Streff of Sauk Centre, MN, Mary Ann Streff of Slayton, MN, and Marie Streff of Sheldon, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded by her parents; a daughter, Marge Schroeder; a granddaughter, Anna Thoene; two sisters and their husbands, Clarinda Wurth and her husband Pete, and Miranda Wurth and her husband Bernie; one brother, Ray Krier; six brothers-in-law, Vince Streff and his wife Hilda, Ray Streff and his wife Darlene, and Clifford, Irvin, Frances, and Robert Streff; and three sisters-in-law, Stella Frederes and her husband Lawrence, Callista Frederes and her husband George, and Charlene Scheitler and her husband Ray.

Casket bearers will be Greg and Adam Schroeder, Mike and Luke Horkey, Britton Jobe, and Jamie Worrell.
