Mrs. Betty Jane Richter Shepherd, age 83, of Dumas, Arkansas, died Thursday, January 19, 2012 in Dumas.

Betty was born on December 14, 1928, in Gillett, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Walter C. and Alta Place Richter.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dumas, Arkansas.

Mrs. Shepherd taught for more than forty years and was retired from the Dumas Public School system.

Her beloved husband, Mr. Gerald Shepherd, also a long-time teacher/ coach for the Dumas public School system, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Walter Shepherd and his wife Jaye of Dumas; three grandchildren, Drew Shepherd of Marion, Andrew Shepherd of Dumas, and Annie Davis and her husband Landon Davis of Little Rock; and one great-grandson, Beckett Davis of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Graveside funeral services was held Sunday, January 22, 2012, at Walnut Lake Cemetery in Pickens, Arkansas with the Reverend Tandy Hanson officiating.

The family suggested memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church in Dumas, Arkansas.

Arrangements was by Griffin Funeral Home of Dumas.
