He had a number of occupations: street car conductor, machinist, steamfitter, painter, clerk at The A. Bursdall Co., meter setter, complaintman for Citizens Gas Co., pipe fitter and possibly teacher.

His WW I draft card shows that he lived at 1031 Udell St. He was a meter setter for Citizens Gas Co. He had medium height, medium build, blue eyes and blonde hair. At this point his last name was still spelled Green. At a later date it was changed to Greene. In 1918 he was single. According to his death record, he was a veteran of WWI.

The Sahara Grotto band held its annual banquet recently at the clubhouse. Officers elected were… Jesse Greene, president.

On July 31, 1943 he married Hazel Myrtle (Hoyt) Cline in Hamilton Co. She was 52 years of age and was the daughter of Lewis B. Hoyt and Martha Featherling. Jesse didn't have any children of his own. Later in life he resided in Hamilton Co. Hazel was previously married to Arthur A. Cline and had a daughter, Ivalou Lucille (Cline) Hardin of Zionsville.

Services Tomorrow For Jesse Greene


Services for Jesse Greene, 92, Zionsville, a retired pipefitter, will be tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Smith Funeral Home, Carmel.

Greene, who died yesterday in a nursing home, worked 40 years at Chevrolet. He retired in 1956.

He was a member of Crestview Christian Church, Broad Ripple Masonic Lodge and Broad Ripple Chapter of Eastern Star. He was a 50-year member of Sahara Grotto and Scottish Rite and was a member of Murat Shrine and its band. He was an Army veteran of World War I and a member of Hamilton County Veterans of World War I Barracks 131 at Noblesville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Friends may call until 9 tonight, and a Masonic service will be tonight. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.

Survivor - daughter Iva Lou Hardin.
