Richard Ayers Former Brown County Jailer Richard G. Ayers died Saturday afternoon, April 11, 1998, at his home in Columbus. He was 51. Mr. Ayers was born February 11, 1947, in Seymour to Donald and Lenore Wilkerson Ayers. He had lived in Brown County most of his life before moving to Columbus. Mr. Ayers served as jailer under Sheriff Rex Kritzer, Sheriff Dave Swift and Sheriff Dave Anderson. He was married to Rebecca S. Reed. She survives. Other survivors include a son, James D. Ayers of North Vernon; a daughter, Sandra Dee Jacobs of Columbus; two grandsons, Bobby Ayers and Brandon Jacobs, both of Columbus; two brothers, Scotty Ayers of Seymour and Mickey J. Ayers of Nashville; and a sister, Ester Watkins of Nashville. The Reverend Nelson Lee will lead a service today, April 15, at 1 p.m. in Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home. Burial will be in Van Buren Township's Mount Zion Cemetery in southern Brown County. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bartholomew County.
