Marcellus Joseph Potthast, age 82, of Pocahontas, IL., died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, IL.
He was born March 18, 1927, in Pocahontas, IL., the son of Henry and Ida (Koch) Potthast.
On January 12, 1954, he married Eleanora B. \"Ellie\" Potthast nee Ribbing , who survives.
Marcellus was born on a farm South East of Pierron and grew up there. He attended Immaculate Conception Grade School. After his school he helped operate the family dairy farm. After he married he quit the dairy and raise grain and beef cattle. He drove for the teamsters and owned M.J. Potthast Truck Service, and owned Pierron Oil Co. He was the Burgess Township Highway Commissioner for 20 years. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, coordinated the PIC Park Halloween Party, and he never met a stranger.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He was also a member of Highland Optimist Club
