Ronald L. Slates, 47, of 4069 Aster Rd., Scio died Friday in Aultman Hospital at Canton of an apparent heart attack. Born December 7, 1940 in Kilgore, he was a son of Grant and Mary Jane (Cullen) Rutledge of Kilgore and the late Donald Slates, and was a carpenter for Weirton Steel at Weirton, West Virginia. He was a member of New Philadelphia Moose Lodge and Dover Veterans of Foreign Wars and was an Army veteran.
Surviving in addition to his mother and step-father are his wife, the former Inge Effenberger, who he married April 19, 1979; two sons and one daughter, Michael of Carrollton, Stephen of Kirkland Air Force Base, New Mexico, and Sandy Slates of Kilgore; a step-son and a step-daughter, Robert Beckley of Mechanicstown, and Janet Hazen of Munich, Germany; and three grandchildren. Services were held Monday at the Allmon-Dugger Funeral Home at Carrollton with Rev. Randy Cetorelli officiating. Burial was in Kilgore Cemetery.
