Mr. Vance Billy Eaton age 87 of Mount Airy, husband of Margaret Harris Eaton, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2008 at Northern Hospital of Surry County.

Mr. Eaton was born in Surry County on January 21, 1921 son of the late Edgar Joseph Eaton and Dora Atkins Eaton.

He a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII and was retired from the North Carolina Granite Corporation. Mr. Eaton was well known for his love of storytelling, passing of his knowledge to his family and friends about his service during WWII, his fishing vacations, gardening and his love and knowledge as a trader of the flea market business.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Margaret Harris Eaton; one daughter, Sandra Kimmel of Mount Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Gwen Eaton, Steve and Martha Eaton and Gary Eaton all of Mount Airy; seven grandchildren and spouses, Mike and Monica Eaton of Ararat, VA, Jon and Patty Eaton, Deanna Eaton, Tony Kimmel, Tracie Eaton, Kayla Eaton and Aaron Eaton all of Mount Airy; three great-grandchildren and by two sisters, Ruth Cooke and Peggy Eaton both of Mount Airy.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Eaton was preceded in death by four brothers, Orbie Eaton, Hobart Eaton, Edgar Eaton, Jr. and Elbert Eaton.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by Rev. Don Fellows and Rev. Dale Bass with burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Wednesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
