Mrs. Ebel Buried Sunday from the M. E. Church

Diffused through the pleasant Methodist Church of Monte Vista on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 9, was a radiant fragrance not of this work when the body of Mrs. Christ Ebel was carried there for its funeral. As mother of ten children and grandmother of twenty-four children, the complete record of her life is recorded on high, but the blessed evidence of her unselfish devotion to this home circle whom she loved and who loved her in return, with a strong and tender affection, is apparent in every field in which she moved on earth.

By request and appropriately for this mother and woman of sterling worth and character, Rev. Zimmerman took as his sermon's text, "For Me to Live is Christ, to Die is Gain". Rev. Zimmerman concluded his sermon with the thought, "In My Father's House are Many Mansions." "Be Thou Faithful Unto Death and I will Give Tee a Crown of Life." These words kept ringing in our ears as we listened to the eulogy of this devoted mother.

Mrs. Ebel was a member of the German Methodist Church, known for its power in song, and no doubt she had many times sung "Rock of Ages Cleft For Me," the fine old hymn sung at the service by Mesdames Ira Bacon, W. A. Farrow, Messers Ira Bacon and C. E. Hart. Other loved songs rendered were "God Be With You Till We Meet Again," and "Asleep in Jesus Blessed Sleep."

After months of pain and patient waiting for release, she entered into rest Thursday morning, Jan. 6, at the home of a daughter Mrs. A. K. Reinhardt. Interment was in the Monte Vista Cemetery. Flowers were lavish and beautiful and the grave was robbed of its gloom.

Mrs. Ebel was born in Russia, June 4, 1865. A part of her young life was spent in this homeland, to which with the strongest home love she slung through her earthly sojourn here. She was married to Christ Ebel in 1885, and in 1887 they emigrated to the United States going to Russell, Kansas. In 1914 the family came to Monte Vista.

Mrs. Ebel is survived by her husband, five sons, namely Fred, William, Adam, Charlie, Ben and five daughters, Mrs. A. G. Mai of Topeka, Kansas, Mrs. Floyd J. Find (aka Fink), and Carl Dumler, of Russell, Kansas, who visited their parents just a few weeks ago, and Mrs. A. K. Reinhardt and Mrs. Forest Wilkinson, of Monte Vista. One sister and two brothers, who are still in Germany and two brothers in Hoisington, Kansas and Oakley, Kansas, also mourn her departure. She was borne tenderly to her grave by the hands of her five sons and a grandson, Loren Reinhardt, who served as pall bearer
