Erma H. Vietzke, age 96, formerly of Gladstone, passed away Saturday morning February 11, 2012 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming, Mi., where she had resided since 2007.

Erma was born February 18, 1915 in Cardigan Junction, MN the daughter of Harry and Ella (Christianson) Erickson. Erma was raised in Gladstone and graduated in 1933 from Gladstone High School as her class Salutatorian. Following graduation she continued her love of music and church activities by becoming one of the founding members of the Salvation Army Hallelujah Brigade and performed at youth functions throughout the regional area. She worked for a time at a children's home in Holdrege, Nebraska and in 1943 attended the Free Church Bible Institute in Chicago. She returned to Gladstone in 1944 where she was invited to play the piano at the Bethel Evangelical Free Church. She was a regular pianist and taught Sunday School at the church for many years.

Erma was united in marriage to Robert Carl Vietzke on September 20, 1952 in Gladstone, where they made their home and raised their son Robert Allen. She was a bank teller for First National Bank in Gladstone for many years, retiring in 1977. Her husband Robert preceded her in death on February 24, 1998.

Erma's hobbies included playing and singing music, reading her Bible, gardening, cooking, and sewing. She will be sadly missed.

Survivors include: Son: Robert and wife Pamela (Monahan) Vietzke of Harvey, MI. Grandsons: Allen Vietzke and his wife Emily Ullman of Salem, MA, and Dustin Vietzke and his companion Stephanie Aberlich of Royal Oak, MI. Great grandson: Samuel Ullman Vietzke. Sister: Marie Harper of Rockford, IL. Sisters in law: Margit Erickson of Escanaba and Pat Erickson of Freeport, Il. Numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Erma was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Harry, Elmer, Alcott, Allen and Harold.

Erma's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday February 16, 2012 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the New Horizons Ministry Church in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 PM with Rev. Frank Scarcelli officiating. Refreshments will be served in the New Horizons Ministry Church Fellowship Hall following the celebration. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Robert at the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
