Arthur G. Loseke, 95, of Monroe, NE died Thursday Febr. 16, 2012 at Prairie Village Retirement Center. He lived most of his life north of Monroe, until recently when his health started to decline and he moved to Columbus on Dec. 29th, 2011.

Arthur Gustav Loseke was born on Sept. 2, 1916 in rural Monroe, NE to Gustav and Minnie (Lueke) Loseke. He was baptized at St. Johns Lutheran (Shell Creek) and Confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Grand Prairie, where he was a member of the congregation and had served on the church council for 12 yrs. Art attended District 31 (Postville) school up to the 8th grade.

Art married Loretta Brauner on August 12, 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church. From this union were 3 sons. Loretta died July 4th, 1971. Art then married Alice Buresh on July 30th 1976.

Art was a lifetime farmer and livestock producer. He farmed north of Monroe, except for a few years when he lived north of Columbus and worked for A. Glenn Kluck from 1957 to 1961. He then returned back to farming in the Monroe area, raising hogs and cattle, having his last herd at the age of 92. At the young age of 75, he obtained his CDL license and helped his sons haul grain to town for many years.

Art enjoyed raising cattle, going to the sale barn, playing cards, reading, watching all-star wrestling and old westerns, visiting with friends and family, especially talking about how farming was years ago. His day didn't start until he listened to the markets and the weather in the morning. Art also enjoyed traveling on the bus tours with Alice, going to toy tractor shows and collecting John Deere toy tractors. He loved his farm dogs and the fish he kept in the water tank.

He is survived by his wife Alice, sons Gary, Roger (Patty) and Dale, all of Monroe. Sister Wilma (Ivan) Goering of Leigh, grandchildren: Dawn (Rob) Pecor of Papillion, Tonya (Dustin) Opplinger of Blair, Brooke (Jeff) Walters of Omaha, Brian and Ben Loseke of Monroe, Cody Loseke of Genoa and Taylor Loseke of Richland, 3 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Also survived by Alices children: Judy (Dave) Weaver of Kissimmee, FL, Carolyn (Jerry) Mason of Omaha, Monica (Ron) Scribner of Colorado Springs, CO, Dan (Joyce) Buresh of Platte Center, Bev (Dave) Rosenthal of Lees Summit, MO, and Geri (Dave) Wemhoff of Creston and Alices grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his wife, Loretta, mother Minnie Loseke and mother-in-law Elsie Brauner.
