He attended grade school in a one room school house (Beebee School). He farmed with his father and brothers. He loved business and finance and working with numbers. He started working in the Cuba State Bank until it closed and then at the Agenda State Bank. He attended Income Tax school when it was required to start filing. He started Sonntag Tax Services where he worked until the age of 90. He also continued farming and clerked many sales for auctioneer's and wrote crop and hail insurance.
He was a member of St. Isidore's Catholic Church, Cuba, Ks and St. Edward's Catholic Church, Belleville, Ks. He sang in the church choir and was very active in church and local functions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Sonntag, two brothers, William and Joseph, one sister, Mary Kathryn Kieffer.
He is survived by Loretta Sonntag of Dupo, Illinois, two daughters, Lynette Sonntag of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Phyllis Truman and her husband Stan of Dupo, Illinois, three grandsons, eight great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Ten AM, Tuesday, Feb 21, 2012, St. Isidore's Catholic Church, Cuba, Ks, conducted by, Father Barry Brinkman.
Interment will be in St. Isidore's Catholic Cemetery, Cuba, Kansas
Vigil/Rosary service will be held Seven PM Monday at Bachelor-Surber Chapel, Belleville, Ks.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Stroke Foundation.
