BARTON,MARYLAND -- Francis Thomas Mowbray Sr., 81, of 24021 Dalmation Drive, Barton, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Egle Nursing and Rehab, Lonaconing.

Born Aug. 17, 1928, in Barton, he was the son of the late Thomas and Marie (Footen) Mowbray. Three sisters, Kathleen Mowbray Hendra, Vera Mowbray Metz and Anna Mowbray Muir; and a brother, Jimmy Mowbray, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Mowbray was a graduate of Barton High School. He was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He retired from Westvaco Corp. Mr. Mowbray was a member of Barton United Methodist Church, a member of Barton American Legion 189, and a life member of Barton Hose Co. 1.

He leaves behind his wife, Peggy Jane (Harris) Mowbray; two sons, Francis T. Mowbray Jr. and wife Carol of Kent Island, Wayne L. Mowbray and wife Erica of Oakland; five grandchildren, Jason Michael Mowbray and wife Sara, Sean Robert Mowbray, Eric Matthew Mowbray, Andrew Thomas Mowbray and Leah Nicole Mowbray. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Baylee Alicia Mowbray, Liam Michael Mowbray, Eoin Matthew Mowbray, Melanie Rachelle Mowbray, Gavin, Laci, and Ian Duncan and Alexis Marie; and his stepgrandchildren, Rachel Duncan and husband Jimmy and Evan Phelps.

The family will receive friends at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Both the Barton Hose Co. and the Barton American Legion will hold memorial services at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6 and 6:15 p.m. respectively.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Boal Chapel on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Sandra Hetz officiating.

Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Barton United Meth-odist Church or the Barton Hose Co.
