Karl J. Ehrlich, son of John D. and Maria Ehrlich nee Altergott was born Feb. 12, 1883 at Tscherbagovka (sic), Russia. In early infancey he was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. To this faith he remained steadfast to the end. At the age of 16, he came with this parents to America and on Jan. 14, 1904 he was united in marriage to Emilie Ehrlich at Sylvan Grove, KS. To this union five children were born, one of whom died in infancy. Mr. Ehrlich was engaged in farming most of his lifetime, spending some years at Colorado, and also in Canada. For the past 29 years he has farmed on the Atherton lands west of Russell. In 1929 the family moved to Russell to make their home at 465 E. 7th St. where he resided until his death. His health began failing in August 1951 and he was hospitalized at the Russell City Hospital three times in the past year, but medical skill could only help alleviate his pain and he remained bedfast at his home where he quietly passed away on Sept. 25, 1952 at 1:35 a.m. He reached the age of 69 years, 7 months, and 13 days.

To cherish and treasure his memory, he leaves his faithful and devoted wife, Emilie; two sons, Eugene, of the home; Emil of Gage, OK; two daughters, Mrs. Georgia Fortney; and Mrs. Bertha Sellens, both of Russell. Also six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Caroline Borell; and one brother, Alexander Ehrlich, both of Wilson, KS. One brother, Waldemar, preceded him in death.

Services: Sunday, Sept. 28, 1952 at 2:30 p.m. from the Deines Funeral Home and from St. John's Lutheran Church at 3:00 p.m.
