JOHN S. OTKIN DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER

Death Resulted From Bright's Disease after Long Illness.

John S. Otkin died in this city on Sunday morning at nine o'clock of Bright's disease after several weeks' sickness. Mr. Otkin was the father of Mrs. F. A. Blake of this city, at whose home he died. He came to Caldwell some time ago from Veteran, Canada, to spend the winter with Dr. and Mrs. Blake.

John S. Otkin was born in Germany April 1, 1851. He came to the United States when he was 19 years old. In 1874 he was married to Miss Mattie Fredericks. To this union twelve children were born, eight of whom are still living. Mr. Otkin also raised four other children who were homeless.

Immediately after marriage Mr. and Mrs. Otkin moved to Lemars, Iowa, where he farmed for ten years. Then moved to Carns, Iowa, where he was the proprietor of the hotel and grain elevator for 18 years. He then moved to Paullina, Iowa, where he lived until two years ago, moving to Veteran, Canada, where he made his home until failing health caused him to come to Caldwell. He and Mrs. Otkin arrived in Caldwell September 18.

Mr. Otkin was an affectionate husband and father and his great cheerfulness and helping hand will be missed by all who knew him. His clean, pure Christian life will be remembered by all. He leaves a wife, eight children and sixteen grandchildren to mourn his death. The children are as follows: Mrs. L. L. Purdy, Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. Max George, Ames, Iowa; Mrs. Hillard, Caranation, Alberta; Mrs. F. A. Blake, Caldwell: Carl Otkin, Pipestone, Minn.; Will Otkin, Veteran, Alberta: Henry Otkin, Donalda, Alberta; Louis Otkin, Peron, British Columbia.

The funeral services were held from the Christian church Monday.
