Daphne (nee Sister Mary Brenda Morris), 93, the beloved daughter of Tom and Ethel Morris, passed away on February 1, 2012. Daphne was born and raised in Phoenix, graduated from Osborn School #1 and Phoenix Union High School.

She received her R.N. from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, her Bachelor's Degree from San Francisco College for Women and her Master's Degree in Nursing Education from Saint Louis University.

Daphne was a staff Nurse at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix in 1942, entered the United States Navy as a naval nurse in 1943 and served through 1946 during WWII. She returned to Phoenix from her military service, and resumed her position as an instructor in the School of Nursing at Saint Joseph's Hospital.

Upon her naval discharge in 1950, Daphne entered into the Congregation of Sisters of Mercy in Burlingame, California, where her given name was Sister Mary Brenda Morris. As a Sister of Mercy, she was a teaching supervisor of Pediatrics at St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco, CA, an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of San Francisco and the Assistant Administrator and Supervisor of Pediatrics at Saint Mary's Hospital in San Francisco. She also served as hospital Administrator in Oxnard and Bakersfield, CA. She ended her career in Nursing as the Director of the School of Nursing in Phoenix at Saint Joseph's Hospital until the school closed. Daphne was then appointed to the State Board of Nursing where she was lead investigator for the board. She retired from the State Board in the mid eighties.

Daphne is preceded in death by her Father and Mother, Tom and Ethel; her brothers Michael, Nicholas and Themie Morris and sisters Agellah Boyer and Elainey Wren. She is survived by her youngest sister Margaret Diana Morris, and numerous nephews and nieces.

A memorial service for Daphne will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 10:30 am at St. Francis Xavier Church located at 4715 N. Central Ave. A private interment will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of AZ. The family wishes to acknowledge the staff at Top Quality Assisted Living home and Hospice of the Valley for their outstanding care of Daphne. The family requests memorial contributions to the sisters of Mercy in Burlingame, CA or Hospice of the Valley.
