"Dodo" wasn't famous, but she was the wonderful mother of Tom, Mike, Shelly, and Greg. A coalminer's daughter, she was the 9th child of 12, born to Joel & Maude Walters, in Hudson,(Lander) Wyoming. By the time she was 14, both of her parents had passed away. She and her younger siblings lived with older, married siblings. At 16, she hitch-hiked to Missoula, Montana, where she was hired as a waitress in a diner. She then got a job working as a nanny for the family of the governor of Montana. On a whim with a girlfriend, they caught a ride with another friend, and drove to Seattle, Washington. By then, America had entered WWII, and she found work as a waitress at the Seattle YMCA, were she met our USN sailor father, Tom Rathbone, Jr. They were married in Oct.17, 1942. She and my father raised a family of four children in Seattle. In 1959, the family relocated first to Mountain View, CA, and later Sunnyvale, CA.
Mom was employed at Lockheed/Lera for several years, a job she thoroughly enjoyed until her death.
She passed away after a 5 month illness with cancer, in 1983, in Mountain View, CA.
She was a drop-dead gorgeous woman, with a personality and sense of humor to match. Rest in peace Mom, we still love and miss you so very much!
