He was born March 8, 1924, at Strawberry Plains, Tenn., and was of the Baptist faith.
His professional entertainment career began in Knoxville, Tenn., in 1942. Later he was involved with the Louisiana Hayride in the early 1950s and came to Arkansas in 1952 with KTHS radio. His entertainment was featured when KTHV television first went on the air. He showcased Arkansas talent on his television program for many years. He also promoted and performed live entertainment throughout Arkansas and regular live shows known as The Tommy Trent Fun Barn. He later owned and operated The Shoppers News until his retirement.
Surviving are sisters Arkie, Gloria, Gladys, and Rose; and brother Coy; son Terry Trent and his wife Marilyn of Mabelvale; a daughter Lee Ann Trent Harlan and husband Gerald of Searcy; son Bill Trent and his wife Laura of Benton; and daughter Alice Trent Garrett and her husband Allen of Bryant; stepchildren, Donnie Reid and Beverly Reid Taylor; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral was Wednesday, July 9, at Roller-Drummond Southwest Chapel. Burial was at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
