He was born April 3, 1921 in Norwood, a son of Arthur and the late Mabel Stevens Murray. He graduated from Brasher and Stockholm High School. During World War II served with the Air Force in the Pacific area.
Survivors include his father, Arthur G. Murray, Winthrop, with whom he lived; one brother, Robert C. Murray of Massena; three sisters, Mrs. Anthony (June) Wolchok; Mrs. Preston (Norma) Riggs, Jr.; and Mrs. Carl (Betty) Rowe, all of Winthrop, several nieces and nephews.
