Robert Koestner Robert J. Koestner , 88, of Davenport, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at his home, following a brief illness.

Born Sept. 29, 1914, in Burlington, he was the son of Carl E. and Ida Schulte Koestner . He married Evelyn Long on Sept. 28, 1940, in Burlington. She died Feb. 9, 1993.

Mr. Koestner was a graduate of St. John High School in Burlington and had a 50-year career in the real estate business. He owned and operated Koestner Realtors and remained active in Koestner McGivern & Associates.

He was a past president of both the Greater Davenport Board of Realtors and the Iowa Association of Realtors and was named Realtor of the Year by both the local and state associations. He was awarded the Omega Tau-Rho service medal by the National Association of Realtors.

He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for more than 50 years, Davenport Noon Optimist Club, Loras General Assembly, Fourth Degree, and a lifetime member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus 532. He enjoyed rose gardening, golf and traveling. He was an Iowa sports enthusiast and a dedicated Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

Survivors include three daughters, Janet McGivern and Eileen Schloemer, both of Bettendorf, and JoAnn Ehrecke of Davenport; one son, Dick Koestner of Davenport; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sister Mary Carla Koestner , SSND, and Mary Louise Arch of Princeton, Ill.; and one sister-in-law.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one son-in-law and one grandson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport, where prayers will be at 7 p.m.

There will be additional visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday in the Gathering Space at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

The funeral and Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Koestner will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Davenport.
