July 2, 1914 - Russell Record
Obitary - Mrs. Henry Krug, Sr.
Katharina Elizabeth Boxberger, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Boxberger, was born December 10, 1849 in Botschinoja, Saratov, Russia. In 1869 she was married to George Henry Krug. To this union there were born nine children, six sons and three daughters, one daughter being deceased. In June 1876, with her husband and children she left her fatherland, coming to America where they were blessed abundantly.

Mrs. Krug was a devoted member of the St. John's German Lutheran Church of Russell. In August of last year she and her husband went to Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, for the benefit of her health, but returned worse instead of better. Mr. Krug took her to Kansas City and consulted the specialists there, but no help could be found. The most of the time she was confined to her bed. Her daughter, Mes. Fred Morgenstern, with great self-sacrifice, took care of her until she was released from her burden of suffering. She died of cancer June 26, 1914 at 1 o'clock a.m. at the home of her daugher, Mrs. Fred Morgenstern, aged 64 years, 6 months and 16 days.

She leaves her husband, George Henry Krug, Sr.; her married sons, John Henry, John Jacob, Adam, George Henry, William and Fred; two daughters, Mrs. Conrad (Anna) Elsesser (sic), and Mrs. Fred (Helen) Morgenstern, who all live in Russell county; sixteen grandchildren; one brother and one sister who live in Russia, besides many other relatives and friends. The funeral took place Sunday, June 28, at 10 o'clock a.m. at the home of Fred Morgenstern and at 10:30 at the St. John's Lutheran Church. The six sons acted as pall bearers. On account of the very busy time of harvest the boys were not able to be at their mother's bedside during her last days as often as they desired, and it was a very fitting indication of their love and respect for them to act as pall bearers. The funeral was conducted by the pastor, Rev. William Harder, and was attended by a large crowd. The husband, sons and daughters are very thankful for the kindness and sympathy shown during their recent bereavement and request that this paper so state.
