Alexander Barclay Robertson, Jr., 88, passed away at the Westerly Health Center on Saturday, September 6, 2014. He was born in Westerly to Alexander Barclay Robertson and Gladys Isabelle Robertson, both from Westerly.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Hale Robertson of Westerly, his daughters, Catherine Robertson Sewell (Kenneth) of Gaylord, MI, and Lisa Robertson Nelson (Mark) of Westerly, his grandchildren, Jennifer Snarski (Dennis), Lindsey Nelson and Daniel Nelson, and his great grandchildren, Alex, Damian and Stella Snarski.

Barclay was of Scottish descent and a member of Clan Donnachaidh. He served in the Air Force during WWII and then attended General Motors Institute in Flint, MI, where he met his wife. He went on to work for General Motors Truck and Bus (GMC) in a variety of roles for over 40 years. During the 70's he worked in fleet sales in NYC and attained the distinguished award of Grand Master Salesman for GMC for six consecutive years. Later he directed the Truck Product Service Operation out of Pontiac, MI. After retiring in 1985, the couple lived in North Carolina for ten years. They returned to Westerly in 2004 to be closer to family. Barclay was active in town politics and ran for School Committee in 2006. Barclay was an avid golfer and photographer. He loved Misquamicut Beach and the natural beauty of the area.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Bruce Robertson and his sister, Catherine Robertson.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, from 5-8 p.m., at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce Street, Westerly. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home followed by a burial service at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.
