Bayard - Funeral services for Mrs. Katie Schmidt, 86, of Bayard will be at 2 pm today from the Plummer Funeral Home here. The Rev Henry Baumgaertel will officiate with burial in the Bayard Cemetery. Mrs Schmidt died Saturday at a Bridgeport rest home. Born in Norka Russia, she came to the United States in 1906 and lived in Lincoln and Colorado before coming to the North Platte Valley. She married George Hessler in Russia. He died in 1945. In 1946 she married Mike Schmidt at Bridgeport. Survivors include her husband, two sons, Henry Hessler of Scottsbluff and John Hessler of Billings, Mont., 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Katherine Schlieger, preceded her in death.
