Barbara Jeanette Kinne, of Harrison, Michigan, passed away December 8, 2006 at St. Francis Home in Saginaw. Barbara was born January 23, 1917 to Rudolph and Josephine Brubaker. She was raised in Gladwin, Michigan. Barbara loved her career as a nurse. After graduating in 1938 from the University of Michigan School of Nursing in Ann Arbor, Michigan she held many positions in the nursing field. She was a surgical nurse at Ferguson's Hospital in Grand Rapids, an office nurse for Dr. C.B. Woods in Mt. Pleasant, a public health nurse for Clare County and a school nurse for Farwell Public Schools.
Barbara had many varied interests. She enjoyed live theater and the visual arts. She also loved fishing, dancing, traveling and U of M sports. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Harrison and the University of Michigan Alumni Association.
Barbara married Francis Kinne on November 23, 1939. The two met when Francis moved to Gladwin in the eighth grade, and Barbara was a seventh-grader. They became high school sweethearts. Francis preceded her in death on October 10, 2001.
Barbara is survived by her five children: Bonnie (Kinne) Collins of Cincinnati, Ohio; Jim Kinne and his wife Pat of Mt. Pleasant; Candy (Kinne) DiCicco and her husband John of Springfield, Va.; Jeff Kinne of Harrison; and Shawn Kinne and Stephanie of Saginaw. Also surviving are eight granchildren; Yvonne (Kinne) Holley, Nicole Kinne, Sophia Kinne, Jennifer (Collins) Brumbaugh, April (Collins) Stammen, Michael DiCicco, Nicholas DiCicco and Gina DiCicco and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Stocking Funeral Home, 165 W. Oak St., Harrison, from 6-9 on Wednesday, December 13th. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, December 14th at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 211 West Spruce St., Harrison. Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the community caring fund of Farwell Area Public Schools or the First Congregational Church Women's Fellowship.
