Louis Martin Osterbur, 90, of Royal passed away at home on Wednesday afternoon (March 14, 2012).

He was born in Ogden Township on Nov. 29, 1921 to Simon and Anna Huls Osterbur. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Hannah Franzen. He married LaVerne Duitsman on Aug. 23, 1944 in Flatville. She survives.

He is als survived by his son, Rodney (Sandie) Osterbur of Royal; daughters, Gloria (Robert) Schmidt of Rantoul and Ranae (Larry) Barnstable of Brimfield; six grandchildren, Jeff (Gina) Osterbur of Dayton, Tennessee, Tricia (Gabe) Keith of Catlin, Kyle (Jami) Schmidt of Oundle, England, Jamie (Mark) Johnson of Morton, Thea (Jay) Austin of Morton and Brady (Hannah) Barnstable of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 10 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Thea Franzen of Urbana and Emma (Alvin) Bluhm of Ogden.

Louis graduated from Carr School near his home. As a farmer, Louis continued to reside on the family farm throughout his lifetime.

Louis was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Royal. He had been a choir member and also a former member of Martin Luther's Men's Chorus. He also served on the cemetery board and had been a trustee on the Spoon River Drainage District.

Louis was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He truly enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
