John was the son of Konrad and Katharina Elizabeth (Muller) Burbach. He was born in the German colony of Norka, Saratov, Russia. He immigrated to America with his family about 1879. In 1881, he married Elisabeth Katharina (Hein) Burbach in Nebraska. They were the parents of Christina, John, Mollie, Elizabeth, Mary, George M., Peter A., Emma, and Ben Burbach.
